About Fires of Kaos
Many years ago a MUD was started and another one and one more than about a 1000 were started! and now we are here.
The short version of Fires of Kaos History:
The line of mud is much like a generational chart, with many offshoots. Diku was born, from it came MERC mud. Then spawned Renegade Outpost. As everthing in life, change must come with the disagreement of what the world should be like. KAOS HQ was born from a disgruntled guild of RO. The rocky road of KAOS lasted from December of 1993 to 1997, as one mud died the remains were carried on to others: The Land, Joynt, and Blunt etc. The Land hosted some of the original immortals of KAOS, all was well until some of the immortals angered a large population of the MUD with random slayings, nuking, and other abuse. Joynt was idle and Blunt closed. A group of new immortals decided to create a new playground now known as Fires of Kaos. These immortals were a mix of old KAOS HQ immorts with good intentions, and some elite players and even a few new ones with fresh ideas. Fires of Kaos now has surpassed The Land, Joynt(now closed) and the original KAOS HQ in design, implementation and areas.
Fires of Kaos was created to give an enjoyable and entertaining mudding environment for any player, and will always strive to do so.
The goal of FoK is to someday reach the average players online of 70, as it was in KAOS HQ's finest day. (if we don't at least we will have fun trying :)
The longer and someday to be updated history:
Here beginneth the background story of KAOS DikuMUD, as told by the bard, Hsoi Sauce.
Years ago, a few brave individuals went to college and discovered a wonderful thing called the Internet. After a time of foraging around through various telnets and FTP sites, these individuals discovered a wonderful thing known as a DikuMUD. It was a difficult decision to make, but eventually these brave pioneers settled on a mud called Renegade Outpost (RO). There, these few individuals fought hard battles and claimed their just rewards for their bravery. Of course, as people crusaded around the Outpost, they began to create informal allegiances based on similar tastes, desires, and goals in life. As with all things unorganized, a call for a formal system was soon heard, and guilds began to spring up around the Outpost. One such guild was known as KAOS, and here begins the legend of KAOS. As was stated earlier, KAOS had its humble beginnings as a guild on RO. Only the mightiest, bravest and most cool adventurers (not to mention people who liked "Get Smart") were selected from the masses to join KAOS. As time went on, the guild grew in membership. Why did KAOS grow and conquer so quickly? In the words of the immortal Sigmund, "We kicked ass." Eventually, the bounds of the Renegade Outpost could no longer quench the thirst for conquest that was held by the members of KAOS guild. KAOS members ventured out into the net world, seeking new muds to conquer. As one would guess, the power and might of the KAOS members enabled them to quickly vanquish any muds that stood in their way. So, having conquered mortal lands, KAOS ascended into the heavens, their founders becoming truly gods and immortals. But the now-gods of KAOS were still not satisfied. Their newly found abilities that spanned the net to places mortals cannot begin to comprehend empowered the gods of KAOS to create their own physical lands for mortals to inhabit. These lands would be known as KAOS Mud, and would be created in the gods' own image and likeness (vast, mysterious, and a lot of fun).
The story continued by Dolan the Druid:
The fun reigned for years. The adventures came from far and wide to hack and slash at the creatures and learn about the lands of Kaos. As the time passed, so did the immortals interest in their creation. Assuming that no greater accomplishment could come from the realm of Kaos, they sought different tasks and slowly went their separate ways. A devastating shift in the universe tore Kaos's world apart at this time, and several images of the world were spread about the universes. Thinking the original world was in his grasp of control, a devious and evil bastard of a lemming she-bitch by name of Bog wormed throughout the universes as a evil dragon of spite. In his path the unweary were swallowed or burned to death. Even the ones who trusted his shifty ways were in some way corroded by the mighty aura of this now hated lower immortal. Many worlds were destroyed or pushed into non-existance by the beast. One such world, guarded by luck and some ingenuity, came up with a plan to thwart the evil satan-spawn. While their homes and lands burned in a rage of fire, the citizens banned together and began to conjure a terrible and powerful magic. Unsure of what they might conjure, but in fear of losing everything, they continued with the magic. From the ashes of their homes and lands rose a mighty and powerful phoenix. The great bird of destiny charged the evil dragon in a single cataclysmic explosion of fire and fury. In a sudden burst, as though hundreds of volcanoes blew at once, gave the last breath to the slain dragon. The final fires raged and the skies filled with flying lava and wicked meteors of destruction as the sounds of battle came to and end. The cooled bits of elements landed far and wide across the world as the citizens watched in horror and amusement. The Great Phoenix continued to fly high into the sky, taking the fire, smoke and brimstone upward with it in a high speed chase. Far away into the stars the Phoenix flew only to be called again if the need was great. Hardly impressed by this display of courage and power from the mirrored world in another universe, many of the immortals abandoned it as a scared and useless plot of land. Many of the survivors believe that the immortals were actually afraid of the citizens, thus unwilling to help rebuild in fear of their own reverence. Those who chose to remain worked hard and long to rebuild and help those who they cared about. To create a home that welcomed all who were willing to make the world a better place, and not use it as a means to control and gain power over. So now has begun, FIRES OF KAOS!
